Kelley Stoltz Announce The Stylist Euro Tour

Kelley Stoltz Announce The Stylist Euro Tour

Kelley Stoltz announce new album “The Stylist”, he will be back in Europe this July.

“The Stylist”, Kelley Stoltz’s 17th album finds him following up the Third Man Records reissue of his 2001 “Antique Glow”, with a collection of 10 new songs. The album was recorded early in 2021, and has been languishing in the vinyl pressing log jam ever since – but luckily Stoltz writes timeless songs, the kind that might’ve appeared on the fringes of the late 60’s or mid 80’s.

Acoustic guitars, synthesizers, drum machines and strong melodies abound. As with his other classic records “Below the Branches”, “Double Exposure” and “Ah! (etc)” Stoltz plays most of the instruments himself and records in his home studio in San Francisco. Kelley says, “I chose the title ‘the Stylist’ because musically I guess that’s what I am… because of the way I write, at my leisure over a period of months at home, I kinda flit around between styles. It’s all in the pop-rock vein, but there’s usually a wide range of sounds and inspiration from song to song. It sort of fits together in a mix tape kind of way, rather than an exploration of one particular mood. That’s always been the case with my albums.”

The chorus-y guitar jangle of “Your Name Escapes Me” somehow name checks the New Bomb Turks, while reflecting on familiar if forgotten faces from Stoltz’s past. On “My Island” insistent piano and saxophone solos take the listener on a tropical trip to the soft rock radio dial.

Stoltz played rhythm guitar in Echo & the Bunnymen for a few years, and “We Grew
So Far Apart” clangs like a lost Liverpool 80’s classic. Stoltz says, “There’s a touch more piano on this record… going back to my Sub Pop days, when I was writing more Beatle-y bits… Harry Nilsson… that kind of thing.” Indeed, the piano led “It’s a Cold World” plays like a holy union of Todd Rundgren and the Zombies where Stoltz declares, “it’s a cold world at times, but I’m not ready to give up the fight.”

Thankfully, after 23 years the beat goes on… and no matter what style Stoltz chooses, “The Stylist” is another platter of tuneful delight in the impressive catalog of one of the great songwriters of our time.

Osees Announce New Album “A Foul Form”

Osees Announce New Album “A Foul Form”

Osees have announced new album “A Foul Form” with exclusive video single, it will be out 12 August 2022 on Castle Face Records.

“Brain stem cracking scum-punk recorded tersely in the basement of my home. After a notoriously frustrating eon, the knee-jerk song path was aggressive and hooky. This is an homage to the punk bands we grew up on—the weirdos and art freaks that piqued our interests and pointed us on the trail head to here / now. Bad times make for strong music is something I agree with. I would say that is evident by the past few years of output from the underground. Transmissions have been all over the map: scanning… searching…sweeping out in the darkness looking for a foot hold. [OSEES] A Foul From represents some of our most savage and primal instincts. Fight or flight. And the importance of a sense of humor in the darkest hour. Nothing wrong with keeping it snappy in the meantime. For fans of Rudimentary Peni, Crass, Bad Brains, Black Flag, Screamers, Abwarts, Stooges and all things aggressively tilted towards your face. You can lean back but don’t flinch…it’s a brief foray into the exhausting pogo pit, so stiffen your back and jerk with your knees. Enjoy.” John Dwyer

Ty Segall Announce New Album “Hello, Hi”

Ty Segall Announce New Album “Hello, Hi”

Ty Segall anounce new album out  July 22, 2022 via Drag City Records.

“Hello, Hi”! Welcome in, to a new room to play the styles and feels that lie under Ty Segall’s fingers, easing fresh air into acoustic space with an assortment of love songs flowering in righteous unconsciousness. Plaintive and wistful, unafraid. Like rain washing away yesterday, “Hello, Hi” pushes open the door, inviting you to pass through all the old shades and degrees of hot and cold. Dark paths turn off abruptly into absurd darkness, then wind back through the broken rocks, ecstatic again. Absurdity again. It happens everyday.
“Hello, Hi” is expansively rendered by Ty, mostly by himself, at home. The isolation suits the songs: you’re only ever as “at home” as you are with yourself in the mirror. Ty’s acoustic and electric guitars and vocal harmonies layer self upon self, forming a spiny backbone for the album. Textures at once gentle and dissonant root the songs as they make their move: melodic arcs convulsing in doubt and bliss and rage. Released from the endless gridlock into open space, these spirits pass on through.
The lead single and title track “Hello, Hi, is a fresh-spun earworm singing the delicate brutality of introversion. Metal alchemizing bubblegum the old-fashioned way: guitar licks haloed by a daisy chain of melody. Vocals flutter like butterflies, promising to break us out of the god-damned bubble that runs our lives.
Radiating from the same mind fields as Goodbye Bread and Sleeper, mixed with shard edges of contrast and contradiction from things like Freedom’s Goblin, Manipulator, and First Taste, “Hello, Hi” is Ty’s most relaxed and complete production to date, an ebb-and flow fusion of words and music offering abstraction and acceptance as it wrestles itself through fucked-up time. Your life and what you make of it — throughout “Hello, Hi”, Ty Segallcharts a passage through the enduring tangles honestly, with clarity and confusion. Listen to the first single “Hello, Hi” now and pre order the album on LP/CD/CS before it streets July 22nd!”

Shannon & The Clams, Welcome Back !

Shannon & The Clams, Welcome Back !

The widely anticipated studio album from garage rock idols Shannon & The Clams, Year Of The Spider, came out in the summer 2021. The band returned to Nashville to record with Dan Auerbach at his legendary Easy Eye Sound studio 2020. Fresh off of their standout album, Onion, and supporting tours with the likes of The Black Keys and Greta Van Fleet, they returned to the studio to craft their utterly unique vintage sound that incorporates wonderfully strange elements of doo-wop, classic R&B, garage psych and surf rock to produce this timeless gem from these perennial favorites. The band, fronted by Shannon Shaw and Cody Blanchard on lead vocals with Will Sprott on keyboards and Nate Mahan on drums, crafted an endlessly vivacious, ebullient and clever album from the kings and queen of the Bay Area garage punk scene.

Shannon & the Clams are returning to Europe in August/September 2022 but also April/May 2023.

New Beechwood Single And Video Is Out

NYC-based Beechwood are releasing their new track and video “Front Page News,” along with the announcement of their new album, Sleep Without Dreaming, coming January 2022.

Beechwood’s new single “Front Page News”  is arguably their finest recording yet. It’s the band’s first new material since 2018 and they return with the same emphasis as before on energetic, intelligent, and often take no prisoners rock with a melodic twist. It isn’t music crouched in fantasy – Beechwood’s songs are grounded in everyday life and their accessible yet individual sound works within an established tradition, but never fails to sound fresh and lively.

The result is the band’s very personal approach at the crossroads of many genres: rock, noise, experimental, pop, world music. Welcome to Grave Flowers Bongo Band

Welcome to Grave Flowers Bongo Band

Welcome to Grave Flowers Bongo Band !

“With a darkish, distorted sound, Grave Flowers Bongo Band blends the scuzzy psychedelia of the late 60s with the uncooked energy of the scene that birthed the primary punks, then washing it within the sun-kissed leather-based sheen of contemporary L.A.” Castle Face Records

Los Angeles’ Grave Flowers Bongo Band’s sophomore LP “Strength of Spring” is an inverted pyramid balanced on the headstock of an acoustic guitar, a rainbow painted in campfire smoke, an endless staircase circling into the clouds. That acoustic guitar, perfectly captured here by Ty Segall’s excellently sere and close mic’d production, plays skeleton to these conjurors woolly grooves, and singer Gabe Flores’ thousand-yard moan keeps us guessing as to exactly where this wildebeest is headed. He pinions these far out tunes, which burst generously with shit-hot guitar leads, Stoogeseque sax squalls, and a gaggle of great eight-armed drum fills, with a flinty wrist-flicking heartbeat as the band turns from whimsy to nimble riffery on a dime, following that pied-piper six string jangling down many lovely rabbit-holes of melody and exploration. It’s obvious these guys play together a lot (the lineup shares two members with acclaimed space rockers Hoover III to boot) and the telepathy on display here is synapse-snappy. Coursing throughout is that note-pad filling, lighter raising, undefinable black magic that feels so rare these days….we dig it mightily and we think you will too, it’s out on Castle Face Records April 30th.

“Reigning Sound joined the Merge roster in 2014 with Shattered. The band’s principal songwriter/member is Greg Cartwright, who’s been leading the shifting cast of characters since 2001. You may be familiar with some of the band’s work, as this album is preceded by five studio efforts as well as numerous EPs and live records. Or perhaps some of Greg’s other projects have been on your musical radar: The Oblivians, Parting Gifts, Compulsive Gamblers, 68 Comeback, Deadly Snakes, Detroit Cobras. ” Merge Records

Wand Leader, Cory Hanson, Joins U-Turn Roster for France

Wand Leader, Cory Hanson, Joins U-Turn Roster for France

Wand Leader, Cory Hanson, Joins U-Turn Roster for French Tours. He will be on tour in 2022.

“Cory Hanson has led the Los Angeles psych-rock band Wand for the past seven years, and they just released their Laughing Matter album last year. But Hanson also makes music without his band. Hanson released his solo debut The Unborn Capitalist From Limbo in 2016, and he got together with his friend Ty Segall to drop a couple of benefit tracks earlier this year. Next year, Hanson will return with his second solo LP.

Hanson’s new album is called Pale Horse Rider, and it promises a way-out take on country-rock. First single “Paper Fog” is a warm, strummy chug that slowly piles on more and more spacey effects. Hanson’s voice is a relatively plainspoken tenor, but his guitar aims for the astral plane.” Stereogum

King Khan Unlimited Has Launched New Album

King Khan Unlimited Has Launched New Album

King Khan Unlimited is the latest pnuk band project of Canada’s wildest monarch King Khan. They are set to release their brand new album, Opiate Them Asses, on January 29 via Bargain Bin Records.

Featuring his majesty’s dream line up of Bordeaux’s finest rock‘n’roll lifers, The Magnetix and Fredovitch (from King Khan & The Shrines), King Khan Unlimited’s new slab of punk rock is chock full of stinging social critique delivered with wit and a wry smile. Their first single “Pigment of Your Imagination” tackles the complicated topic of pigment as related to the tidal wave of racism all over the world. “Pigment of Your Imagination” also features Eamon Sandwith from The Chats professing his love for, uh, Shea Butter amongst other things…

A few words from His Majesty: “Here comes King Khan’s first offering off of the new King Khan Unlimited Opiate Them Asses LP! ‘Pigment of Your Imagination’ is a song about the fragile world we live in and how something as common as the pigment of our skin has separated the world and fuelled the ignorant agendas of the old boys network that has its hands on the throat of justice, peace and liberty for all creatures on this planet. It’s pure rock n’ roll with a twist of consciousness and a very special appearance from Eamon from The Chats admitting his profound love for body oils and soft jazz…”

King Khan’s brand new incarnation is not simply a “slab of pure punk rock mayhem”. Their new album Opiate Them Asses addresses a smorgasbord of topics ranging from Vice President Mike Pence’s affinity for Gay Conversion through electrocution, the plague of Narcissism rotting the fabric of humanity, Al Capone’s Syphilis, the King’s problem of occasional bedwetting and the evils of Monsanto. King Khan not only shares his very poignant social criticisms but he wraps them around a very solid foundation of classic punk influenced by The Ramones, Dead Boys and Electric Eels.

Lately King Khan has teamed up with Malik Rahim, founding member of the Black Panther Party Louisiana Chapter and they have started the Just Insulin Initiative to build the Just Insulin House which will be a community centre in Algiers, New Orleans, where they will provide diabetes education alongside the doctors and healthcare professionals from the New Orleans Chapter of the Social Medecine Consortium. King Khan is also raising money reading his Black Power Tarot Cards and selling t-shirts for this cause.

Opiate Them Asses is not just a fun album, it’s a call to arms to the whole world and a plea for global solidarity towards the suffering. Not only does it ‘Opiate’ your mind, but also informs your ass to follow.

Wolfmanhattan Project joins U-Turn Roster

Wolfmanhattan Project joins U-Turn Roster

The Wolfmanhattan Project is joining U-Turn Touring Roster. Composed of the following legends :

Mick Collins: Guitar, electronics  and Vocals
Kid Congo Powers: Baritone Guitar , electronics and Vocals
Bob Bert: Drums, Drum Machine, Percussion and Vocals

Who knows what possessed Mick Collins, Kid Congo Powers and Bob Bert to hook up for the Wolfmanhattan Project? But good thing they did, because here we have giddy garage contraption which combines Collins’ sci-fi obsessions, Powers’ hallucinogenic visions and Bert’s power-house pound—along with a hefty helping of fuzzy r ‘n r mayhem. This first full-length follows the “Smells Like You” single from 2015 (included here at track seven) in fine, trippy, weirder-than-you-were-expecting style.

The three principals are all legendary in a crusty, underground way. Mick Colllins spliced electric blues to garage stomp in the Gories, then rifled through Motown, Detroit House and Bubblegum in the ever-entertaining Dirtbombs. Kid Congo Powers played a role in two of American punk’s defining outfits, first the Gun Club and then the Cramps; more recently he’s backed Nick Cave in the Bad Seeds and recorded a string of wonderfully warped, tripped out garage albums with the Pink Monkey Birds.Bob  Bert was Sonic Youth’s first drummer (before Steve Shelley), and he’s also played with the Chrome Cranks, Pussy Galore and Lydia Lunch’s Retrovirus. (Lunch turns up for a cameo in “Jar in the Staircase.”) That’s a lot of rock and roll history right there, but none of it weighs on their hard-knocking, rough-housing, just-out-of-true grooves. They play hard, with joy and eccentric intelligence right here, right now.
